There is less maintenance, they are reliable, are long lasting, and offer complete protection with the toughest coating. That is why at Ohio Galvanized Tube we are proud to offer  Atkore Allied Tube and Conduit products.           Allied's steel profiles come from an inline hot-dip galvanizing process called  Flo-Coat ® that they created more than 55 years ago. This one-of-a-kind process involves running welded tubing through molten zinc while it is still on the line. This helped to revolutionize the industry and provide users of tubing with a product that turned their businesses around.      The tubes that we get from Allied are safer in terms of your homes water supply because of the way Allied makes the tubes. While still on the line t...

Common Applications for Stainless Steel Tubing

Stainless steel has been one of the most common and versatile materials in the world since it came into production over 100 years ago. It has become an indispensable product for a variety of industries . Due to it's broad range of sizes and custom-made designs, it is an integral piece in many specific applications.      Certain industries use certain stainless tubing for different sectors. Many manufacturers, mills and manufacturing lines use parts of stainless steel for their machinery and goods they make. Same goes for the automotive industry where it is used for high quality mufflers. Gas and heat lines allow stainless steel tube lines to withstand extreme pressures being forced through them. It is also 100% recyclable and easy to sterilize.      Unlike ordinary steel, stainless steel isn't prone to corrosion, rusting or staining with exposure to water. It is not totally stain proof however. In areas with low oxyge...

Difference Between Tube and Pipe

Have you ever wondered if there is a difference between steel tube and steel pipe? Are these words interchangeable to describe the same cylindrical piece of metal? As it turns out, there is indeed a significant difference and they are not synonymous. So let's take a look at the differences. 1. Measuring Diameter This might not seem like a big difference, but it actually is. Steel tube is measured from outside edge to outside edge, while pipe is measured only for the internal opening. This is because steel tube has its strength determined by the thickness of its walls, and steel pipe's usefulness is determined by the volume it can hold. It is common to find a 12-inch pipe, but it would be extremely rare to find a 12-inch tube. Tubes are used in applications that require a smaller size. 2. Structure Steel tube does not have to be cylindrical. It can be square or some other shape. Pipe, on the other hand, is always round. Tube can have a seam while pipe is a uniform piece. Pipe te...

5 Stainless Steel Tube Facts

Unless you are a metal enthusiast, you may not know all there is to know about metal and its properties. From carbon steel to cast iron to stainless steel, there are several materials to choose from when it comes to tubing for hydraulic, pneumatic, or other industrial projects. Here are 5 facts you might not know about stainless steel tubing. Cost-Effectiveness: One of the most appealing benefits of using stainless steel tubes is its cost! It costs less to maintain and can save you money over time because of their long service life. Welding Capabilities: Certain stainless steel is heat treatable. This can be helpful when stainless steel tubes need to be modified to achieve certain physical or chemical properties. Certain stainless steel sheets can also be easily welded into various shapes and sizes. Resistance: Thanks to its properties, stainless steel tubing offers significantly more resistance to corrosive elements, oxidation, erosion, and high temperatures than most other metal t...

How a Plasma Cutter Works

At Ohio Galvanized Tube, we provide many different types of fabrication services at our business. One of the processes in which we fabricate is through using a CNC Plasma Cutter that can help fabricate products very precisely and specifically to your needs as our consumer. However, plasma cutters may seem complicated to the naked eye, so let's take a look at how plasma cutting works and how it creates things so specifically.  Plasma cutters work by sending an arc of electricity through a small opening that is filled with gas. Sending this electric through heats the gas so much that it transitions to the 4th state of matter: plasma. Now at this time, the electric/plasma will transfer to the metal being worked on to complete the circuit. The high speeds at which the plasma exits the restricted nozzle of the torch forces the metal to be cut while the gas is sent around the cut area to shield around the plasma cut. Most of the time a pilot arc is used to initially generate the p...

Ohio & Steel: A Historical Partnership

Ohio has always been a well-known state for production of many things. But the steel industry is one of the products that made Ohio what it is today, that's why we at Ohio Galvanized Tube are proud to call North Central Ohio home!  The first blast furnace was created in Ohio in 1802, the same year that the state was admitted to the Union, but by the short period of time to 1853, Cleveland became the third-largest iron and steel city in the whole country at the time. This led to the growth of Akron, Canton and Youngstown, which made the Cuyahoga and Mahoning Valleys some of the best performing steel and iron cities throughout the nation. The ever-continuing expansion to the western part of the continent provided more opportunities for Ohio as more and more steel was needed to create the railroads that would lead people to the new territories. As companies began to integrate in the early 1900s, Ohio remained competitive with the help of new strategies by the American Iron and Steel...

The Sporting Influence of Steel Pipe

Although you may not think about it at first, steel pipe, like the products made at Ohio Galvanized Tube , are everywhere in the world of youth and professional sports. Although the tubing may look very different by the time it has been finished by the producers we sell to, the groundwork of this equipment was originally any old regular steel tubing.  The next time you are at a sporting event look around and you may realize much more that is made of steel tubing than you originally thought. Attending a soccer or hockey game? Look towards the nets as they are likely made of steel tubing that has been shaped and painted to fit the look that you would normally expect. The boards around the hockey rink can also show off the applications of steel tubing as they can be used as the supports of these barriers.  Still questioning what sports are touched by the hand of steel tubing? Take a look at baseball and football. Baseball fields, at least in youth sports, are surrounded by a cha...

Pipe Welding Basics

For many, steel manufacturing and fabrication almost always involves some type of welding technique to effectively use the metal in a way that will be efficient and useful. Therefore, today we will reinstate our series on welding tips and techniques with an introduction to Pipe Welding. As for any type of welding, the first VERY important step is making sure you have taken the proper safety precautions. This includes having an auto-dark helmet, apron, flame resistant clothing, safety goggles, work boots, and possibly earmuffs depending on how big the job is. Along with these safety precautions you should also know the basic passes that are involved with each welding project, such as the root pass, hot passes, fill passes and the cap pass. Knowing your welding position is also very important as it will affect how you approach the pipe. There are multiple different positions the pipe can be in, which include the material laying horizontal, vertical, fixed, inclined, or rotating, but t...

Converting to Solar? Here's What You Need

As power bills continue to rise in households, more and more homeowners are thinking about converting their homes to solar energy. As a matter of fact, in some parts of the United States, residents are paying between $400 and $900 per month for their utility bill. That is a lot of money! So if you are considering solar, what do you need to get started? The solar panels themselves are perhaps the most well-known of all the system components, since they're the most visible part of the package, often perched atop homes and businesses roofs. Solar panels are also considered the life blood of a solar power system, because solar panels actually capture the sun's radiation, thereby initiating the entire process of converting sunlight into an electrical current. The job of solar panels is to essentially create the electrical current. Solar power systems would be worthless without solar inverters. The way they work is, once radiant sunlight is converted into electricity, sol...
