The Sporting Influence of Steel Pipe

Although you may not think about it at first, steel pipe, like the products made at Ohio Galvanized Tube, are everywhere in the world of youth and professional sports. Although the tubing may look very different by the time it has been finished by the producers we sell to, the groundwork of this equipment was originally any old regular steel tubing.

The next time you are at a sporting event look around and you may realize much more that is made of steel tubing than you originally thought. Attending a soccer or hockey game? Look towards the nets as they are likely made of steel tubing that has been shaped and painted to fit the look that you would normally expect. The boards around the hockey rink can also show off the applications of steel tubing as they can be used as the supports of these barriers.

Still questioning what sports are touched by the hand of steel tubing? Take a look at baseball and football. Baseball fields, at least in youth sports, are surrounded by a chain-link fence. The supports you find for those fences are likely steel along with the foul poles that may extend out of that exact fencing. As iconic as all of the equipment is that was previously mentioned, none is as iconic as the steel tubing in football. Oftentimes, including in professional football, the noticeable field goal uprights are made of a mix of steel and aluminum. You may never have considered that before, but one of the most recognizable views in all of sports is constructed from steel piping that is shaped in a very specific way!

Next time you are out at a sporting event, take a look around. You likely have more steel piping around you than you would ever think.

Common Applications for Stainless Steel Tubing

Stainless steel has been one of the most common and versatile materials in the world since it came into production over 100 years ago. It has become an indispensable product for a variety of industries . Due to it's broad range of sizes and custom-made designs, it is an integral piece in many specific applications.      Certain industries use certain stainless tubing for different sectors. Many manufacturers, mills and manufacturing lines use parts of stainless steel for their machinery and goods they make. Same goes for the automotive industry where it is used for high quality mufflers. Gas and heat lines allow stainless steel tube lines to withstand extreme pressures being forced through them. It is also 100% recyclable and easy to sterilize.      Unlike ordinary steel, stainless steel isn't prone to corrosion, rusting or staining with exposure to water. It is not totally stain proof however. In areas with low oxyge...

Basic Welding Joints

Welded joints are one of the most commonly seen joints although there is much more that goes into them than most realize. A Weld Joint is characterized by being the place where two or more metal pieces are joined together through the introduction of melted solder and high heat. There are 5 types of weld joints, corner, lap, tee, edge, and butt. Each one has it's own unique qualities and the best places to implement.  The butt joint is formed by placing the ends of two parts together. The two parts either lie on the same plane or are side by side. It is the most simple type of weld joint. There are a few different types of welds involved with a good butt joint. Next, let's focus a little on the corner joint. The corner joint is another pretty basic option for beginners and looks exactly how it sounds. This joint is identified by the two welded pieces being joined together in the shape of an L. It is important to remember to weld both the front and back of the L shape for struc...
