How a Plasma Cutter Works

At Ohio Galvanized Tube, we provide many different types of fabrication services at our business. One of the processes in which we fabricate is through using a CNC Plasma Cutter that can help fabricate products very precisely and specifically to your needs as our consumer. However, plasma cutters may seem complicated to the naked eye, so let's take a look at how plasma cutting works and how it creates things so specifically.

Plasma cutters work by sending an arc of electricity through a small opening that is filled with gas. Sending this electric through heats the gas so much that it transitions to the 4th state of matter: plasma. Now at this time, the electric/plasma will transfer to the metal being worked on to complete the circuit. The high speeds at which the plasma exits the restricted nozzle of the torch forces the metal to be cut while the gas is sent around the cut area to shield around the plasma cut. Most of the time a pilot arc is used to initially generate the plasma between the electrode and the nozzle.

This process creates an extremely effective way for fabricators to create exactly what the customer had in mind with a very small margin of error.

Basic Welding Joints

Welded joints are one of the most commonly seen joints although there is much more that goes into them than most realize. A Weld Joint is characterized by being the place where two or more metal pieces are joined together through the introduction of melted solder and high heat. There are 5 types of weld joints, corner, lap, tee, edge, and butt. Each one has it's own unique qualities and the best places to implement.  The butt joint is formed by placing the ends of two parts together. The two parts either lie on the same plane or are side by side. It is the most simple type of weld joint. There are a few different types of welds involved with a good butt joint. Next, let's focus a little on the corner joint. The corner joint is another pretty basic option for beginners and looks exactly how it sounds. This joint is identified by the two welded pieces being joined together in the shape of an L. It is important to remember to weld both the front and back of the L shape for struc...

Steel Tubing's Influence on Construction

As we've covered before, there are thousands of applications for steel tubing products in just about every corner of the world and in a huge amount of different industries. One of those industries is in the construction of new buildings, far and wide, for a ton of different uses, like apartments, office space or governmental decision-making. Most of these buildings will likely be built with the help of scaffolding which is made with an array of steel tubing parts. Let's take a look at why scaffolding is so important and how steel tubing is an important part of the construction industry as we know it!  Safety: Scaffolding is important for ensuring the safety of the workers that are contracted to construct a new building. These structures help create a flat surface for workers to stand on while they work and also allow more than one person at a time to be working in a similar area or site. The creation of handrails on the top platforms for scaffolding also helps ensure worker s...
