Conveyor Applications of Steel Pipe

We've talked about many different applications of steel pipe on this blog, from greenhouses to solar panel racks to field goal posts. However, there are still many others that we have not touched on. For example, one application that we have not discussed, even though it is quite possibly one of the most popular, is the use of steel pipe in conveyor systems in manufacturing, production or distribution fields.

Although many of us may never work on or near a conveyor belt, you can not underestimate the importance of this invention in our modern society. They have increased productivity in factories dramatically, created a way to transport goods across work areas, no matter the size of the production floor, and they have also helped workers in distribution separate products so that they only go to specific areas. Conveyors have also crept into our personal lives, as well, in the form of luggage check or security in airports or at checkout of your local grocery store. So what does this mean? Well, we would have to guess that conveyors are here to stay!

There are multiple different types of conveyors that are used throughout production and manufacturing, however, the main two styles that use steel pipe is the roller and powered roller belts. These styles are both rather simple to make, as it is mainly just two parallel stabilizers with rotating, or 'rolling', pipes placed perpendicularly in between to create a way for things to move over it. The normal rollers are powered mainly by gravity, while the powered rollers have the same design with a motor that rotates the pipes in order to transport the products, without the need for gravity. These conveyors are the main types that have a need for steel pipe and find themselves spread widely around the country in all kinds of factories and warehouses!

Basic Welding Joints

Welded joints are one of the most commonly seen joints although there is much more that goes into them than most realize. A Weld Joint is characterized by being the place where two or more metal pieces are joined together through the introduction of melted solder and high heat. There are 5 types of weld joints, corner, lap, tee, edge, and butt. Each one has it's own unique qualities and the best places to implement.  The butt joint is formed by placing the ends of two parts together. The two parts either lie on the same plane or are side by side. It is the most simple type of weld joint. There are a few different types of welds involved with a good butt joint. Next, let's focus a little on the corner joint. The corner joint is another pretty basic option for beginners and looks exactly how it sounds. This joint is identified by the two welded pieces being joined together in the shape of an L. It is important to remember to weld both the front and back of the L shape for struc
